Ash trees, January

Field notes | Ash trees, January

Early January, the ash trees in the orchard are bare against a blue sky. This is probably the best time to see their tangled forms, now that the last leaves have been blown away. The old branches of these trees hold the damp, making a perfect support for lichens and mosses.
